I didn't mean to. Four weeks into summer vacation and I'm still not in a regular studio schedule. Off on vacation tomorrow and maybe I will have time to post actual photos.
They look quite lovely all together. Photos by the amazing Trish Tunney. Click on the image to make it larger.
Two subway cards, sent off last week to Single Fare in New York. I have other cards prepped and will continue to knit more over the next few months.
Today I wrote an artist statement for a submission and I don't think I went about it correctly. I found myself mostly explaining the why and the how. Here's the what, as in what I believe:
in the finely crafted
in making things by hand
in attention to materials
in experimentation
in process and the gestation of a piece
in the trial-run
in refining technique
Can't decide what they want to be yet. Both are a very fine silk-stainless steel blend yarn. For knitting geeks, the one on the right was knit on size 0 needles, the one on the left, size 0000. They are on there way to New York for this show. Hoping they will make it on time.
Did the big push to re-arrange, clean and sort for Open Studios. The postcards came together, with the added "winging it" element of soliciting text for future embroidery. More photos on flickr.
These are a continuation of the ones from the sketchbook project. The petals are needle felted with hand embroidered words. Trying to get them finished up for Open Studios this weekend. More info here.
