wax and wool

A new development in my Topography series. Knit cotton and wool-stainless steel on rice paper and machine sewn to felt. I'm working with ideas of quilts and layering.

These felt postcards are an extension of the book that I made. I need to figure out the how and the what as far as display is concerned. That keeps changing.

Enjoying both the process and the products of this series. I've switched to a square format for framing purposes.

Continuing with the topographies. This time experimenting with machine sewn linen yarn on paper.

I love chrysanthemums. Must get sketching.

I participated in The Sketchbook Project through Art House Co-op and "post card" was my assigned theme. I made a series of flower line drawings, then made gocco prints on rice paper. These were sewn on each of the pages. Some were left blank, with one petal colored in. I want to make more individual post cards and also experiment with handwriting, rather than relying on a computer font.

It wasn't the best of years. Challenges and change would sum it up. But change can be good as well as bad. I moved into a new studio. I participated in two Open Studios, four art shows and curated one. I have ideas and things in the works for 2010. Hey ho, let's go.

A day in the studio with my serger and a stash of wool and cashmere sweaters I've had for years.

When life intervenes, making you languid and noodle-like

and you don't work for the better part of the month,

even though you know something big is just around the corner.

You might be tempted to think, "Oh I'll just coast, show some old work. No problem."

Then something happens.

And there will be late nights, talking yourself down from the possibilities.
